Overview
The ways in which family members navigate intergenerational trauma and as well, death, grief and healing can set the precedent for the rest of our lives and the lives of younger generations. For example, a grandparent who refused to examine the impact of her trauma may be teaching her grandchildren (intentionally or unintentionally) to ignore the impact of their own traumatic experiences. Sooner or later the trauma is likely to be triggered by something one cannot hide from, no matter how hard he or she tries. We will examine intergenerational grief, loss, and trauma, and also opportunities for inter-generational healing, which is how one family member’s pain (past and present) and potentially his or her journey toward peace and healing, can impact what we love, long past our time on earth. We will also examine generational attitudes toward physical and mental health, gender identity, spirituality and cultural expectations and how they all combine to create opportunities for emotional suffering and uniquely, present day healing that can shift wellness for lifetimes to come.
