OVERVIEW:

Building on core supervision concepts, Day 2 focuses on the ethical, legal, and practical aspects of supervisory work. Participants will engage in applied learning around ethical decision-making, informed consent, boundaries, confidentiality, and vicarious liability—equipping them to manage risk and foster integrity in supervision. The training explores documentation and record-keeping standards, balancing administrative compliance with clinical depth and relevance.

Through observation exercises, live or simulated feedback, and case-based learning, participants will strengthen their skills in evaluation, conflict management, and reflective practice. The day concludes with an opportunity to articulate a personal philosophy of supervision, integrating professional values, theoretical grounding, and ethical standards. Attendees will leave prepared to apply supervision best practices confidently and effectively in real-world settings.

OBJECTIVES:

By attending this training, you will be able to:

1. Explain ethical and legal issues in supervision, including informed consent, confidentiality and competence.
2. Identify ways to encourage supervisee reflectivity.
3. Describe supervisee evaluation, including use of evaluation instruments and communicating feedback.
4. Explain ways to manage conflict in supervision.
5. Discuss the role of documentation and record keeping in supervision.
6. Explain personal philosophy of supervision practice.

PRESENTER BIO:

Jessie Timmons, LCSW, Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, and Adjunct Instructor at Temple University

Jessie Timmons, LCSW, is a seasoned therapist, clinical supervisor, and teacher of social work with experience in addressing both mental illness and addictive disorders. She has been an adjunct and full-time instructor at Temple University and served for 10 years on the board of the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Social Work (PSCSW), including one term as president. Her teaching and professional development have focused on ethical and competent clinical social work practice, social determinants of health, and effective treatment and assessment of presenting client concerns.
