OVERVIEW:
As technology transforms the healthcare landscape, telemental health has emerged as a powerful modality for reaching clients in diverse settings. This foundational training equips mental health professionals with a comprehensive understanding of telehealth service delivery. Participants will explore definitions and distinctions between various telehealth models, examine legal and ethical standards (including HIPAA compliance), and review technology options. Special emphasis is placed on intake and assessment protocols, informed consent, and establishing therapeutic rapport remotely. Designed to be practical and interactive, this day provides clinicians with critical tools and frameworks to launch or strengthen their telemental health practice confidently.
OBJECTIVES:
By attending this training, you will be able to:
1. Define telemental health and differentiate it from other telehealth modalities.
2. Identify key components of an informed consent process specific to telemental health.
3. Describe intake and assessment procedures adapted for virtual settings.
4. Evaluate different technology platforms and their alignment with HIPAA standards.
5. Examine common barriers to engagement in telemental health and strategies to overcome them.
6. Recognize ethical issues related to initiating and maintaining telehealth services.

PRESENTER BIO:
Christian is a senior lecturer at the Indiana University School of Social Work and co-owner of VibeWell Connect, a telehealth company. He teaches and researchers in the areas of telebehavioral health practice, distance education, and the use of Al in social work practice and education. He utilizes e-simulations designed to enhance student clinical practice skills in a virtual setting. He is interested in enhancing e-social work distance education through program development and technology design, as well as utilizing technology-based interventions within clinical social work.
