This 5-hour CE training helps licensed clinicians ethically integrate innovative or complementary practices into psychotherapy. Participants clarify the difference between clinical theory and therapeutic modality, complete a guided self-assessment to identify theory alignment, and apply an integrative ethics lens using Reiki as an adjunctive case example—covering treatment planning, documentation, informed consent, risk/risk management, and touch-related boundaries.
By attending this training, you will be able to:
1. Differentiate between clinical theory and therapeutic modality, and explain how theory functions as the foundational belief system guiding ethical clinical practice.
2. Describe the role of clinical theory in scope of practice, ethical decision-making, documentation, and informed consent, particularly when integrating innovative or complementary interventions.
3. Identify and describe key concepts from core clinical theories commonly used in integrative and trauma-informed psychotherapy.
4. Evaluate readiness for ethical integration of complementary practices by assessing alignment between theory, treatment goals, clinical intent, and modality use.
5. Explain considered approaches to integrating Reiki within psychotherapy, including its clinical purpose, theory alignment, and role as an adjunctive intervention.
6. Identify ethical considerations, risks, and limitations associated with integrating Reiki into psychotherapy, including issues related to boundaries, power dynamics, and the use of touch.
