OVERVIEW:
They say that Artificial Intelligence (AI) won’t replace you in the workplace, but someone who knows how to use AI will. This is particularly true for social workers, case managers, counselors, and psychologists because we were not trained in AI, but AI is transforming our work. It is becoming harder to avoid AI, yet it remains critical that we understand how AI works so that we can make informed, ethical decisions that protect both our clients and the public. We are mandated by our professional codes to do this.
The widespread use of AI is recent, and it is not easy to learn all about AI and how it is being used in our professions. At the end of this course, you will understand how AI works, the different types of AI, and how it is being used in our work. You will better understand all the ethical considerations and current research findings about AI in the social work, case manager, counseling, and psychology spaces, and walk away with frameworks on how to mitigate risk.
OBJECTIVES:
By attending this training, you will be able to:
1. Explain what artificial intelligence is and how different types of AI work.
2. Identify examples of how AI is currently being used in social work/counseling/psychology.
3. Summarize code of ethics, standards for technology, and HIPAA.
4. Identify real-world ethical issues of AI in social work/counseling/psychology, and issues identified in current research findings.
5. Identify frameworks to analyze considerations around ethical use of artificial intelligence.

PRESENTER BIO:
Susanna Sung, LCSW-C, is a psychotherapist and founder of her private practice and consulting company, Thrive Fully. She is also a national keynote speaker and trainer, a consultant for critical incident responses to organizations affected by disruptive workplace events and to foreign bureau correspondents, and a consultant for national social work licensing board examinations in the US and Canada. She recently retired from an extensive career as the Director of Marketing Community Relations and Associate Investigator at the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health, supporting our understanding and treatments for mental illnesses.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in both journalism and psychology from Syracuse University, and her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Her clinical and research work through the years has included substance use disorders and mood and anxiety disorders. She has also worked on policy and governance issues on organizational and national levels. Susanna served on the task force for the social work compact, which has passed in 35 state legislatures so far, increasing access to care throughout the nation. She also provides services for program and evaluation development, clinical supervision to social workers, marketing and website design, and political campaign management consultation.
Susanna is committed to the social work values of empowering individuals and communities to have the agency and resources to achieve their goals, and to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in creating authentic and trusting relationships.
