OVERVIEW:
Burnout is often addressed as an individual problem requiring better self-care, time management, or increased efficiency. Yet burnout is just as much a reflection of depleted organizational capacity as it is of individual exhaustion. This session introduces the RESTORE Framework, a practical model for rebuilding capacity at both the individual and organizational levels. Participants will examine how workplace demands, organizational culture, and chronic stress contribute to burnout and explore practical strategies for embedding restoration into supervision, workload expectations, team culture, and everyday work practices. Rather than focusing on doing more, this presentation offers a roadmap for restoring the capacity needed to sustain healthy professionals, ethical practice, and high-quality care.
OBJECTIVES:
By attending this training, you will be able to:
1. Describe how organizational and individual factors interact to contribute to chronic stress, burnout, and reduced workforce capacity in helping professions.
2. Differentiate between strategies that optimize productivity and practices that restore individual and organizational capacity.
3. Identify practical restoration strategies across the domains of the RESTORE Framework that can strengthen workplace culture, support professional well-being, and promote sustainable service delivery.

PRESENTER BIO:
Rhonda DiNovo serves as Clinical Assistant Professor, MSW Program Coordinator, and Coordinator of the Graduate Drug and Addictions Studies Certificate Program in the College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina. She teaches students important theoretical and practical approaches in interdisciplinary health and mental health, as well as principles and practices of motivational interviewing and cognitive behavior therapy. Rhonda also serves as Field Supervisor and Director of the West Columbia Outreach Program, a police social work outreach service offered through the West Columbia Police Department that provides brief screening, assessment, and referral to treatment services and community resources to those in mental health and substance use crises. Prior to becoming a full-time faculty member in the College of Social Work, Rhonda served 3 years as Director of Substance Abuse Prevention and Education for the University of South Carolina, and 8 years as Prevention Specialist for adolescents and their families at LRADAC.
