Helping professionals communicate constantly with clients and colleagues, but messages aren’t always received as intended, especially when strong emotions are involved. This session focuses on practical ways to improve clarity, reduce misunderstandings, and strengthen therapeutic and professional relationships.
Participants will review key ethical standards across disciplines (social work, counseling, case management, nursing, and psychology) and examine how communication breakdowns can create ethical dilemmas. Through brief multimedia examples and applied discussion, we’ll identify common pitfalls and practice strategies for ethical, effective communication. The training ends with short role-play scenarios drawn from real-world ethics cases, giving participants concrete tools they can use immediately in practice.
By attending this training, you will be able to:
1. Identify two to three ethical dilemmas that can arise in client/provider communication and how to resolve them.
2. Examine the codes of ethics from various disciplines and apply common ethical dilemmas and potential solutions using the ethical standards.
3. Demonstrate at least two communication techniques that can help with communicating with clients.
4. Apply communication strategies to complex ethical case scenarios.
